Italy Travel Guide: Sicily

Sicily

The Strait of Messina separates Sicily from the rest of Italy has been a natural border of the island so charismatic and so clear in nature and at the same time full of secrets and religious puritanism.

The geography of Sicily island is marked by a volcano in constant eruption, Etna, and a host of fishing villages with sandy beaches, rocky and sandy other (Cefalu, Giardini Naxos and Taormina ….).

Inside Greek and Roman temples hidden and lonely in the middle of nowhere that will delight those who love photography without tourists wandering among the ruins (Agrigento, Segesta, Selinunte …). Major cities (Palermo, Catania, Messina …) will let you see the chaos of the city, and Italy “to the Neapolitan” which seems stagnant since the 50s, when Marcelo Mastroianni, Sofia Loren rolled those mythical films.

Venice

Away from the Venetian people’s imagination, the place where they found shelter and refuge in his flight from the Germanic invasion sV century is now one of the towns with more charm and romance of the world. If during the day you get caught in their magic despite the tourists, at night, when the lights come on, the flashes of the cameras are gone and the streets lie, I love. It is a must.

Floods are suffering in recent years raises concerns for the conservation of the city and is planning to make a dam to protect it from the tides and the muddy waters of the lagoon.

For Venice is to walk and get lost in its narrow streets. You can start the walk to walk and discover palaces of Gothic and Renaissance styles (like the Ca d’Oro, the Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo Grassi … and many other anonymous and hidden), churches (St. Mark’s Basilica and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore) and crossing the beautiful bridges that hang over the canals (like the Bridge of Sighs and the Rialto).

The Beautiful Naples

Friday, June 4th, 2010

In the navel of Italy, at the foot of Vesuvius, Naples is one of the most dynamic and personality throughout the country. The bustle of people, markets, food stalls outside, the clothes hanging, narrow streets, churches that are hidden in corners, the shouting of the people, bikes, more bikes … Very authentic.

The historic center district of Forcella, the Duomo, the Piazza del Gesu and Spaccanapoli neighborhood filled with shops and small churches, and then continue with the Castel Nuovo and the Teatro San Carlo.

It is impossible to summarize all the corners so charming Mediterranean city can offer, but in my opinion, the best is the bay where it is located. Even in ancient times the rich are in summer refuge on this coast.  Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sorrento and Positano are some places you can get from Naples traveling the Amalfi coast and enjoying the deep blue sea. Simply beautiful.
