Paths Of Peace Today

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Introduction: From the first time since the outbreak of the Great War 1915-1918, the area surrounding the Falzarego was a focal point of fighting between the Italian Army and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Without going into detail of the war that over the years produced an unbroken series of advanced, withdrawn, more or less significant deviations of the front line, the fact remains that the area still offers the visitor surface or close it, one of the most significant concentrations of testimonies of the Great War of the Alps: the trenches, fortifications, trenches, tunnels, observatories, stations on both sides.Paths Of Peace

It ‘true, however, that those who go there once a high probability of remaining sick very easily return there, or day trip from the most popular resorts nearby or for an extended stay in (not many) hotels, mostly family, offering value for money among the best in the Dolomites.

Let us make a brief characterization: branching out from Monguelfo town more or less equidistant from Brunico (km.17) and San Candido (15 kms), the path of Gsiesertal penetrates 17 km north-east to the Austrian border in a landscape of gentle undulations: the majestic setting of left peaks of the Dolomites of Sesto, the valley is gradually softening, while climbing from 1087 to 1398 meters, grassy slopes on which there are hamlets and, (more…)

It ’s a passage from the book “Diary of a journey on foot – Reggio Calabria and its province” in which Edward Lear, English painter and writer (1812 Highgate – Sanremo 1888), told the crossing on foot of Calabria place between July 25 and September 5, 1847 in company of John Proby, Ciccio and driving a donkey. General Guidelines for Travel to Italy and the Italian Lake District

General Guidelines for Travel to Italy and the Italian Lake District

MONEY
this is not a good idea to bring a lot of money while in Italy or Europe. While the Italian Lake District is a very safe area, select pocketing is a common problem in all European regions. Do not carry a lot of money at one time, and be sure not easily accessible to select the pocket (wallet in the back pocket is an easy target).

Traveler checks are somewhat outdated today, and many places no longer accept them. Use your credit card, they received at the most and have the best exchange rates. To attract the Euro you can go to the Italian ATM machines, known as BANCOMATS. They accept all major debit cards.

Do not forget to notify your local bank that you are traveling to Italy so that they do not freeze your account by mistake.

INTERNET AND PHONE SERVICE
Communications to countries outside Italy quite easily today.  Cyber cafe in every town, and not too expensive, usually not more than 12 Euros per hour. Many of them also have a phone to make international calls, pay per minute.

Another option is to sign up with Skype, which is very cheap international calls and you only need an Internet connection to use it. (more…)
