The ethnic composition of Italy is represented mainly by Europeans (97.6%, of which 95.5% are Italian), followed by Africa (1.1%), Asians (0.7%) and American (0.4%), forming a total population of 58,883,000.

Italian cuisine is within the so-called Mediterranean cuisines and is prepared worldwide. Its most famous dishes are pizza, pasta and risotto, but the cuisine has a wide variety of Mediterranean flavors and distinctive aromas. A wide variety of dishes ranging from the rich and creamy dishes of the north to the succulent and spicy dishes of the south.

Historical Highlights

Did you know that Italy’s history dates back many centuries ago? Yes, the first civilization which worsened in the area were the Etruscans, precisely in the eighth century before the Common Era. At that time, some Greek settlers came to the southern areas, which then form part of Magna Graecia.

The story that follows then is known by all. The Roman Empire conquered the territory and subject to all the people living there. By this time the Latin language is the most common form of communication.

In 509 before the Common Era was founded the first Roman republic and the pillars of democracy. Empire gradually develops the Italian cities for infrastructure and public works.
